14th
Annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving
October 27th, 2007 |
| |
Once again the diving gods blessed us with tremendous
weather! Unlike many late October weekends, it was sunny
and the air temp was up in the 60s.
We had a couple dozen divers participating in the
pumpkin carving, including 14 who chose to fill out the
paperwork and pay the fee to receive their PADI
Underwater Pumpkin Carving specialty card. A free lunch
of chili dogs and chips was served to participants, and
there was also an uderwater trick-or-treat search for
buckets full of candy at various locations in the
shallow end of the quarry.
The viz was great, with 15 ft. viz in the shallow water
and 20-25 ft. viz in the deep water, except for the very
bottom of the deep end where it was only about 5 ft.
Water temp was app. 65 F at the surface, and in the high
50s down to about 40 ft. depth, where it gradually got
colder until the usual 42 F at the bottom. Lots of
spoonbill were about, and the night dive was populated
by many hunting bass.
Those of you who are diving dry, stay tuned in the "I
need a buddy" forum for upcoming invites in the coming
months. The rest of you remember to begin checking the
forum again in about April, when the lakes begin to warm
back up from the Winter.
